It takes a long time to really\u00a0know someone, and even then it’s not easy.\u00a0 If fact, it’s rare to truly<\/i> know<\/i> another person.\u00a0 You have to understand their history, observe how they interact with others, look at the work they do, and gain insight into their nature.\u00a0 You\u00a0have to study them.\u00a0Celebrate with them.\u00a0Mourn with them.\u00a0 You\u00a0have to\u00a0talk.\u00a0 You have to\u00a0listen.<\/p>\n
That kind of knowing\u00a0takes a lifetime…and even then is limited by the lens through which we view our own life and\u00a0experiences.\u00a0 It’s complicated, to say the least.<\/p>\n
It’s the same thing when it comes to knowing God.<\/i><\/p>\n
I grew up knowing stories about God.\u00a0 I went to Sunday School and church, read the children’s books, watched the shows.\u00a0\u00a0I could recite the creeds and say the prayers.\u00a0 Who is God?\u00a0<\/i> The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.\u00a0 What does He do?<\/i>\u00a0 He saves us from our sin.\u00a0 Yep, I thought I knew it all…but I didn’t.<\/p>\n
How is it possible to wrap our minds around the Creator of the Universe?\u00a0 The One who breathed us into being and spoke the world into motion.\u00a0 The One who longs for relationship <\/i>with his people, who chose a nation so that He could reveal who He is and what He does.\u00a0 The God who loves us in spite of our brokenness.\u00a0 Who loves us in spite of our rejection.\u00a0 Who loves us so much that He would send a holy Savior, a Way for us to live in His presence for free and for forever.<\/p>\n
Knowing Him begins with the still, quiet voice that says there is more than meets the eye in this world.\u00a0 Pay attention.\u00a0 Look deeper.\u00a0 Stop trying to understand Me and just try to know Me.\u00a0 Gaze upon the beauty of My creation and know I exist.\u00a0 Read how I set apart the people of Israel, so I could reveal myself to the world.\u00a0 Look how I kept my promise to send a Savior, to redeem those who put their faith in Me.\u00a0 Watch how I work today, through the lives of those I call my own.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.\u00a0 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.\u00a0<\/i> Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.\u00a0 Matthew 7:7<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0 Deuteronomy 4:29<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0 Jeremiah 33:3<\/i><\/p>\n
We must seek, my friends.\u00a0 In the midst of our hardest days, we can’t stop seeking to know Him, the Gift Giver.\u00a0 For in doing so, we are promised that we will finally receive the gift, the still.\u00a0 <\/i><\/p>\n
