{"id":34,"date":"2012-10-07T00:20:00","date_gmt":"2012-10-07T00:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seekingthestill.com\/?p=34"},"modified":"2019-08-22T17:08:26","modified_gmt":"2019-08-22T22:08:26","slug":"31-moments-of-still-day-6-tick-tock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oldseekingthestill.com\/website_e02ce2c0\/31-moments-of-still-day-6-tick-tock\/","title":{"rendered":"Tick Tock {day 6} 31 Moments of Still"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"r\"><i>I gaze upon my children and wonder.\u00a0 Of all the moments we spend together, of all the words I speak, which ones will lock in their memory?\u00a0 30 years from now when they gaze back to these days, what will they recall&#8230;<\/i><\/div>\n<div class=\"r\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"r\">Clocks.\u00a0 Lots of clocks.\u00a0 Grandfather chimes, cuckoos popping out of hiding, little German children turning round, all marking the turn of time.\u00a0 It was on the brink of magical all those clocks that lived in my grandparent&#8217;s home.<\/div>\n<div class=\"r\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"r\">Like the rhythmic ticking of the clocks, my early childhood was safe and predictable.\u00a0 Pollyanna-ish, I suppose you could say, in the eyes of my childish<i> <\/i>naivet\u00e9.\u00a0 I was blessed to have many places of sanctuary where I was safe from the &#8220;world out there.&#8221;\u00a0 One such place was the home of my Pop Pop and Tu Tu.\u00a0 They lived in several throughout the years.\u00a0 Many a day and night I spent in them all.\u00a0 Family gatherings, sleep-overs, and the clocks, always the clocks, with their gentle ticking, a dependable backdrop for it all.<\/div>\n<div class=\"r\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"r\">You have to wind the clocks, you know.\u00a0 It&#8217;s quite a chore, which I now know from trying to keep up with just the single antique mantle clock resting in my living room.\u00a0 Quite a labor of love it must have been to keep up with the many they had in their home.\u00a0 One day, though, the clocks stopped ticking.\u00a0 A marriage that had been the foundation of my childhood was no more.\u00a0 I remember clearly the day my parents told me that my grandparents were getting a divorce.\u00a0 A what?\u00a0 That was something that happened to other people, certainly not my Pop Pop and Tu Tu. And so, the magical clocks stopped ticking for me&#8230;<i>or did they?<\/i><\/div>\n<div class=\"r\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"r\">It&#8217;s true that we can never go back to the ways things used to be.\u00a0 But I&#8217;ve learned that the past can either remain a gentle friend or an ugly enemy.\u00a0 I think it&#8217;s up to us to choose.\u00a0 And so I choose the magical clocks, like an old familiar friend to greet me when I enter a quiet room.\u00a0 A soothing rhythm to remind me that we are not the ones who wind them after all.\u00a0 For if we were, they would all eventually go silent.\u00a0 But as long as our own hearts beat inside&#8230;<i>there is still time.\u00a0 <\/i>Time to give thanks in all circumstances.\u00a0 Time to forgive.\u00a0 Time to heal.\u00a0 Time to give it over to the only One who can take it anyway.<\/div>\n<div class=\"r\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"r\">The Father of Time and the Keeper of Memories can restore it all, if only we let Him&#8230;<i>in His time.\u00a0 <\/i><\/div>\n<div class=\"r\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"r\"><i>There is a time for everything,<br \/>\nand a season for every activity under the heavens:<\/i><\/div>\n<div class=\"poetry top-05\">\n<div class=\"line\"><i>a time to be born and a time to die,<br \/>\na time to plant and a time to uproot,<br \/>\na time to kill and a time to heal,<br \/>\na time to tear down and a time to build,<br \/>\na time to weep and a time to laugh,<br \/>\na time to mourn and a time to dance,<br \/>\na time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,<br \/>\na time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,<br \/>\na time to search and a time to give up,<br \/>\na time to keep and a time to throw away,<br \/>\na time to tear and a time to mend,<br \/>\na time to be silent and a time to speak,<br \/>\na time to love and a time to hate,<br \/>\na time for war and a time for peace. &#8211; <\/i>Ecclesiastes 3<a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.seekingthestill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/31_MomentsofStill3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seekingthestill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/31_MomentsofStill3.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><i><br \/>\n<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I gaze upon my children and wonder.\u00a0 Of all the moments we spend together, of all the words I speak, which ones will lock in their memory?\u00a0 30 years from now when they gaze back to these days, what will they recall&#8230; Clocks.\u00a0 Lots of clocks.\u00a0 Grandfather chimes, cuckoos popping out of hiding, little German [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":275,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"nf_dc_page":"","_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","_exactmetrics_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"wds_primary_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[4],"class_list":["post-34","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-31-moments-of-still"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
